You are welcome to drop your child off as early as 2:45 pm or as late as 3:30. Friday class hours run differently for elementary school students since Brookline schools let out early. How to Make Abstract Art with Kids, Basya, 2:00-2;40pm

For Ages 8+

June 15-July 6

Have you ever wanted to know how to make abstract art? Abstract painting began by artists who looked at life and interpreted it differently.Through different techniques and activities each week, we will be using the real world to inform abstract pieces of art. We will introduce projects using line, shape, and color in fun and easy to understand ways, learning though creating and exploring.

Fashion Class

Tuesday Fashion is taught by Michelle and Hailey. In addition to Michelle’s fine art background, she has taught fashion illustration, fashion sketching and fashion industry classes at Newbury College, Framingham State College, Mount Ida College and created a Pre college fashion program for the Art Institute of Boston. She designs her own one of a kind hand bags and has created her own printed fabrics.

Hailey is an accomplished Fiber Design artist, who has shown at many local art fairs and holds her BFA from Mass College of Art where Fiber Art was her major area of concentration.

Zoom Fashion Design

Session 4: ZOOM FASHION April 14- MAY 26 meets for 7 sessions

Learn Fashion Design and Fashion Illustration techniques in an online setting. Basic Croquis/fashion figure drawing and clothing design is taught in a fun atmosphere. All you need is paper, pencils and some markers and we are ready to start.

Imagination & Surrealism: with Carter & Ellen 3:00-3:40pm

June 2-June 23

Making the unreal seem real is an incredibly fun and interesting aspect of art. This course aims to explore the different ways one can go about making imaginary things believable. We will look at various surrealist artists for inspiration, such as Dali, Magritte, Kahlo, and others. This course will explore this topic through projects such as collage and various drawing and or painting projects (depending on the materials you have available). This class is aimed at high school students with some background knowledge of basic art techniques, who are ready to conceptually develop their art! Any materials you have are fine, this course is designed to be fluid and adaptable!

Dressing through the Ages: Fashion Design & Some Fun Costume History Workshop with Summer 5:00-5:40pm
June 9-June 30
Age Group: High School students

Learn how to capture the mood of a garment, the motion of a garment, the general form of the human figure. This is geared to high schoolers. Learn through the observation of historical trends and styles while working with different media to illustrate your drawings. But don’t worry you can use whatever you have at home, watercolor, markers, ink, pencils. We will aim to create a 5 piece collection based on a fashion era!

Wednesday Zoom workshops 40 minutes

Embroidery art with Hailey- Wednesdays 3-3:40 For Ages 7+, (older kids

June 3-July 1(no class June 17)

In this 4 week session, students will learn a variety of decorative hand-embroidery stitches to create their own stitch sampler. Using embroidery kits, they will be taught how to use these stitches to create their own pattern, and ultimately, their own unique design! Basic sewing skills (threading needles, tying knots) recommended. Ages 7+; private courses for all levels available– please contact Michelle at 617 365-5625 for more info.

We supply Embroidery kits which include:

    • 1 Hoop
    • Embroidery floss- variety of colors (black, white, green, purple and yellow)
    • Embroidery needles (2)
    • Fabric– 2 pieces for 2 projects
    • Tracing paper (2 sheets)
  • Kits can be mailed or be picked up on planned pick up dates outside The House of Colors. They will be in marked containers outside the studio, and Michelle will be inside.

Sewing 101 with Summer and Ali-Wednesday 11:00-11:40

June 3- June 24

For 5th grade and up (exceptions apply)

4 week session,

Work with 2 fashion design students as they teach you the fundamentals of sewing! In this class we will cover the basic design and construction techniques, including pattern-making, hand-sewing and using a machine (if students have one). We will build skills with small exercises (like making sleeves and hemming), and use them for a final sewing project (a fun shirt!). Our first project to lead up to this is making a simple mask!

Materials needed: Week 1: MASKS-Cotton fabric(enough for 2, 9 x 6 rectangles), ribbon or elastic, scissor, measuring tape, ruler,pins,needle and thread. Hand sew or Machine Sew if you have one.

Week 2-4: Fabric of your choice,(cotton is a good idea),large sheets of paper for pattern making, ruler, tape measure, scissors, pins, needle and thread. For WEEK 4, bring fabric markers if you like, and any decorating supplies you may have like rhinestones!

Fashion is Art with Ali, Wednesday, 5-5:40pm

June 10- July 1

Age Group: High school students

Summary

4 week session,

Not all fashion is ready-to-wear. Fashion can be sculpture, performance, a wearable art-form. In this class, we will study and design avant-garde fashion. For the first three weeks, students will be given a different theme with videos of fashion shows and performances to inspire them. They will design a piece influenced by said theme, which we will share and “critique” as a group at the end of class. For the final week, students can draw on anything that they’ve learned and create a wild final product (either an illustrated collection, a maquette, or a full garment).

Figure Drawing & Character Creation
with Paria, 5-5:40pm

Age Group: High school students

Paria will help you through traditional drawing and illustration techniques, and demonstrate with a digital program. You are welcome to work on a digital program as well but it is not necessary.

Color is so important in Art. This class is all about how we use color to create emotions and depth in a picture. We will be looking to master artists, such as Monet for inspiration. We can use any materials you have at home, like markers, watercolors or color pencils. This class is open to anyone, ages 8+(good for all ages)

Zoom Laid Back Fridays for Teens

In this class students are challenged to take their artistic thinking to a deeper level. Because of these challenging times where we find ourselves unable to continue in our studio format, it’s up to us to hone our drawing skills, our color theory knowledge, and most of all our conceptual ideas that makes us the individual artists we are. I hope to use this class to broaden our artistic horizons so to speak and also make us aware of the great art that exists past and present. This class brings middle school students and high school students together.
